Google Wave goes "mute" on "mute"

And changed the terminology to "follow" and "unfollow". I think this is a good move. Now they need to rename "inbox" to something less email-centric.

RT Twitter Book and Now Twitter TV Show

Justin Halpern, the author of a rather tartly named Twitter account, has landed a book deal and a deal with CBS for a comedy based on the premise. Mr. Halpern’s Twitter account, rendered here as “(Stuff) My Dad Says,” has 700,000 followers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mr. Halpern signed a book deal with HarperCollins last month and CBS decided there must be a television show in there somewhere.

“Will & Grace” creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are on board to executive produce and supervise the writing for the multicamera family comedy, which Halpern will co-pen with Patrick Schumacker. Halpern and Schumacker will also co-exec produce the Warner Brothers TV-produced project, which has received a script commitment.

The name of the show will need some retooling to meet network standards, but there’s plenty of funny in the sensibility. Based on aphorisms and pearls of wisdom from Mr. Halpern’s father, the Twitter feed usually consists of his father telling his son that everything he thinks is wrong.

“Oh please, you practically invented lazy. People should have to call you and ask for the rights to lazy before they use it,” said a post from Nov. 1.

Google storage prices drop dramatically

Is this in preparation for GDrive? I hesitate to ask... but...

via Gmail Blog by The Gmail Team on 11/10/09

Posted by Elvin Lee, Software Engineer

When Gmail launched five years ago, it came with a gigabyte of storage space. A gigabyte doesn't seem like very much any more, and now every Gmail account comes with more than seven gigs of space (and growing). Still, some people manage to use up all of this (that's a lot of email...), so for over two years we've offered the option to purchase even more storage. This extra storage acts as an overflow that you only start using when you reach the limit of your free storage, and is shared for use between Gmail and Picasa Web Albums. Picasa has always come with a gigabyte of free storage to share photos, but people need even more storage as they start taking more pictures and moving full resolution backups of their photo collection into the cloud.

While storage costs have been dropping naturally, we've also been working hard to improve our infrastructure to reduce costs even further. Today, we're dramatically lowering our prices to make extra storage more affordable. You can now buy 20 GB for only $5 a year, twice as much storage for a quarter of the old price, and enough space for more than 10,000 full resolution pictures taken with a five megapixel camera. And if you need more than 20 GB, you can purchase up to 16 terabytes!

So if you're running out of space in your overflowing inbox, or want to keep full resolution copies of thousands of photos, visit www.google.com/accounts/PurchaseStorage to see all the plans and to buy more storage.

Google Wave and Korean -- So far, so few

I work in IT here in Seoul. I know of many people using Wave but amazingly, when I search public waves with the second operator lang:ko there are (as of this writing) only 65 waves.

RT Google Docs Labs?

via Google Operating System by Alex Chitu on 11/9/09

A Google Docs error message has an interesting suggestion: "If you are running a Google Docs experiment, turn it off."

Google Docs will probably add a Labs section with experimental features, much like Gmail Labs and Google Calendar Labs.

Here's what I'd like to see in the list of experiments: document pagination, chat sidebar in all Google Docs services, limited editing mode, integration with Google Scholar, autofilter and better conditional formatting for Google Spreadsheets.

Some of the most popular suggestions for Google Docs: drag and drop image placement, more page formatting options, mobile editing, integration with Gmail and an image editor.
